Some of our clients will be aware that over the past few weeks, Calais has caused quite a headache for everybody involved with any cross Channel movements. Strikes by ferry workers caused the build up of thousands of trucks on either side of the Channel. Although currently the back log has dissipated and further strike action is not thought to be of immediate concern, it has exposed many flaws in the system which needed urgent attention. We understand that many of our clients have concerns over the migrant population in Calais boarding trailers. At times of such heavy queuing at the French port, assured security is even more difficult to obtain. Theresa May has recently announced that a ‘secure zone’ will be created in Calais for UK bound freight traffic which will hold up to 230 vehicles. This is a complex and political issue but please be assured that operationally, we will keep you up to date with developments, as and when they happen.
